Fazenda Pinhal Coffee
Fazenda Pinhal, owned by the Gabarra Teixeira family since 1994, is located in the renowned coffee region of Minas Gerais, Brazil. The farm spans 914 hectares, with 35% dedicated to coffee cultivation and the rest preserved for natural reserves and reforestation initiatives. These initiatives include a Eucalyptus forest, a 20-hectare native forest redevelopment, and a sanctuary for the rehabilitation and release of native birds.
Sustainability and Innovation
Fazenda Pinhal is committed to sustainability:
- Renewable Energy: Since 2019, the farm has been powered entirely by solar energy.
- CarbonNeutral®: Achieved in 2020, reflecting their dedication to reducing carbon footprints.
Coffee Processing
- Harvesting: Ripe coffee cherries are processed on-site.
- Drying: Cherries are dried on patios for 10-14 days and then rested for a month before milling in San Antonio Do Amparo.
- Flavour Profile: The natural processing method results in a sweet, elegant cup with rich notes of hazelnut, milk chocolate, and banoffee.
Brazilian Coffee Legacy
Brazil is the world’s largest coffee producer, contributing around 40% of the global supply. Coffee farming began in Brazil in the early 18th century, becoming the country's largest export by 1830. Minas Gerais is a key region, producing half of Brazil’s coffee. While Brazil's market is dominated by large-scale production, high-quality micro-lots, like those from Fazenda Pinhal, are gaining popularity in specialty coffee markets worldwide.
